The Daily Bono Report

Once again, Bono is back in the Lonely Note news. The U2 singer and Bob Geldof have been nominated for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Other nominees for the coveted honor are Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari, and former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Nobel watcher Dan Smith (former head of the Peace Research Institute in Oslo) comments:

"They are the typical kind of high-profile, celebrity nomination."

However, Smith has said that that the Nobel prestige would likely be used to propel some lesser-known person into the world spotlight.

The award is always presented in Oslo on Dec. 10, the anniversary of the death of its founder, Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel.
